A modern twist on the classic Hamptons-style kitchen for a charming beachside bungalow.

Our kitchen designers love breathing new life into homes that hold decades of memories and this Mona Vale beach house was no exception.

Originally built in the 1960s and extended in the 80s, the home has evolved through the years. With three teenagers, regular sandy feet, and a Border Collie in the mix, the kitchen needed a renovation that both preserved the relaxed charm of a classic Northern Beaches coastal home whilst offering ease and convenience to a growing family.

A kitchen that works for the entire family.

The original kitchen, part of a 1980s rear extension, had a dated galley layout that felt confined and offered limited functionality. Without changing the overall footprint or knocking down any walls, our kitchen design team reimagined the space.

The updated layout was redesigned to include a freestanding oven, significantly more bench space, improved flow, and a fresh, clean colour palette – all combined to create a kitchen that feels open, light, and easy to use from multiple access points.

It’s now a space where family members can move about freely, grab a snack, or pitch in without bumping elbows.

Seamless flooring for a cohesive look.

One of the biggest visual challenges in the home was the old Cypress flooring, which had been laid in different directions due to past renovations and extensions.

This inconsistency broke the flow between spaces and drew unwanted attention. To restore harmony, we lifted the old boards and replaced them with new Australian Cypress flooring. This was laid with continuity throughout the kitchen to match the rest of the house.

The result is a seamless and visually unified floor with warm tones – setting the perfect foundation for the new kitchen.

The new kitchen embraces a coastal aesthetic that perfectly adheres to the home’s beachside location.

The crisp, white cabinetry is accented by mint green splashback tiles, SMEG appliances and natural timber elements, creating a fresh, relaxed feel.

With the client seeking a clean, simple and uncluttered aesthetic, we suggested shaker-style cupboards with recessed finger pulls – a modern twist on the classic Hampton-style kitchen.

To retain character while adding functionality, we kept the original timber-framed windows but retrofitted them with frosted louvres. Lourves allow light and airflow to filter through while ensuring privacy from the neighbouring properties.

The existing white VJ ceiling panelling (a subtle nod to the home’s earlier renovation) was thoughtfully retained, providing both cost savings and continuity that blended seamlessly with the new beach house kitchen aesthetic.

Hidden function. Ample storage.

Behind the sleek island bench lies a powerhouse of functionality. An integrated sink, dishwasher, pull-out bins, and custom cutlery drawers are all tucked away from view, keeping the kitchen looking tidy even in the busiest moments.

A generous double-door pantry provides ample shelving, while full-height cabinetry ensured no space was wasted.

We also created a dedicated coffee station beside the fridge, adding extra storage and open shelving while creating a handy link to the adjacent dining area. It’s a thoughtful touch that makes daily routines more efficient.
