A stylish Freshwater beach house renovation blending coastal ease with contemporary elegance.
Located just a short stroll from from Freshwater Beach, on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, this beautifully reimagined 1960s bungalow balances classic beachside character with modern functionality.
Our team was engaged to transform the downstairs area into a practical and stylish space that enhances everyday family living, seamlessly complementing the second-storey addition completed earlier.
Prior to the renovation, the ground floor which was once outdated and closed off. It has now been transformed to reflect the same bright, sophisticated aesthetic found upstairs.
With a palette of crisp white, warm oak, and elegant brass finishes, the lower level interiors now exude a calm, coastal warmth.

A bright and welcoming entry with purpose.
The newly designed entryway now includes a practical “mudroom” area – ideal for sandy feet, school bags, muddy shoes and wet paws. A large picture window floods the space with natural light and doubles as a quiet reading nook away from the bustle of the kitchen and living areas.
Our custom joinery includes a built-in bench seat with deep drawers below for storing shoes, beach gear, and sports equipment, all neatly tucked out of sight.
Floor-to-ceiling cabinetry flanks the entry, offering a combination of hanging and shelf storage for coats, umbrellas, and school bags. The joinery, finished in Polytec’s Natural Oak from their Ravine range, was an eco-friendly choice. Engineered, the melamine finish, with a consistent, UV-resistant grain, mimics real timber without the fading or variation.
Complementing the oak tones are white polyurethane cupboards in Dulux Lexicon Quarter with a satin finish, providing a clean, modern contrast. Accent Kethy handles in American Oak tie in beautifully with the timber elements, adding a soft, organic touch that enhances the overall coastal vibe.

An open plan kitchen design for seamless connection and flow.
The new kitchen design was reconfigured from a dated U-shape into a spacious, open-plan galley layout. Two adjoining walls were removed to open the space to the living and dining areas. A splashback window was added to recapture natural light lost during the upper floor extension, enhancing the kitchen’s bright, welcoming ambiance.
The 3-metre island bench now anchors the space, with generous seating and clever storage built into the design. Finished in YDL Stone’s “Rosemee”, the benchtop features a soft cream base with subtle grey flecks for a refined, understated aesthetic. A brushed brass ABI Interiors gooseneck tap and double undermount sink elevate the island’s functionality and style while offering a clean aesthetic to the space.

Beneath the island, Polytec’s Steccawood decorative battens add warmth and texture, reinforcing the organic design. These prefinished MDF battens are a cost-effective alternative to timber, with customisable profiles that integrate seamlessly into the kitchen’s contemporary coastal palette.
Bosch appliances, including an integrated induction cooktop, oven and microwave, were chosen for their clean lines, features and reliability.

A functional and space-efficient butler’s panty.
Making use of a former powder room, we were able to integrate a new butler’s pantry.
Offering extra prep space and ample storage, the butler’s pantry features contrasting oak cabinetry and a continuation of the brass hardware and sinkware.
Leftover bathroom tiles from the upstairs bathroom renovation were reused for the splashback. This was a thoughtful choice that promotes sustainability and cost-efficiency while tying the home’s overall aesthetic together.

A thoughtful laundry renovation.
The laundry renovation shares the same design aesthetic as the rest of the renovation, but in reverse. The Polytec lamintate benchtops in Natural Oak and satin white polyurethane cabinetry are the reverse of the butler’s pantry. While the vertically laid “kit kat” finger mosaic tiles are a unique feature to the laundry.
With abundant overhead and under-bench storage, this galley-style laundry is both beautiful and practical proving that utility spaces don’t have to compromise on style.

A breezy, beachy atmosphere.
And finally, carefully selected lighting fixtures throughout the home contribute to the breezy, beachy atmosphere. The combination of natural oak textures, clean white surfaces, and brushed brass accents creates a timeless interior that’s both functional and effortlessly chic.
