The young owners of this apartment in Willoughby, on Sydney’s Lower North Shore, were seeking a stylish, low-maintenance kitchen design and laundry renovation that added ease and convenience to their dynamic work-from-home lifestyles.

Clever kitchen design maximised every space available.

The design brief from the client for this kitchen renovation was to “add value to the property whilst infusing it with a modern, yet homely, ambience”.

The primary objective of this kitchen renovation was to open up the former, fully enclosed kitchen to create a larger, open-plan living space. This was done by removing the wall that was separating the kitchen from the lounge room. In strata properties, structural changes can have their challenges. Through meticulous planning and liaison with all parties concerned, the approval process at this property was seamless and stress-free.

To make use of the full potential of the new space, we opted for an L-shaped kitchen design with a central island. This layout not only maximised the space available, but also facilitated seamless movement between the cooking, dining, and living. With the increased floor area, we were able to integrate a custom designed home office zone.

Concealed appliances and a light colour scheme further enhanced the sense of space in the room, while space-saving enhancements such as pull-out pantries, shark nose finger pull doors, and spice drawers, optimised the area further.

V-groove paneling and oak floating shelves added a touch of rustic charm and creating the ‘homely ambience’ desired by the clients. The oak desk seamlessly integrated into the kitchen space without compromising on style.

The final result was a kitchen space that exuded modern charm whilst seamlessly integrating with the clients’ work-from-home lifestyle.

Smart laundry design for a compact space.

In apartments and townhouses, the laundry is often a multi-functional room not used for clothes laundering only. With a compact floor plan, storage and function were priorities with the new laundry design at this apartment.

To this end, we installed cupboards to the ceiling and, following the same styling as the kitchen, shark nose finger pull doors gave the cupboards and clean, seamless profile.

The Fisher & Paykel front loading washing machine/dryer installed under the bench saved even more space.
